My New Hair Care Regimen

About a month ago, I chopped off my 16 inch ponytail so I could donate it.
I’d like to say I did it gracefully, but I whined and complained about my new haircut for weeks. I’m finally adjusting, and it’s grown out enough to tuck behind my ears. But, no matter what I do with my hair during the day, I wake up looking like I’m about to hold auditions for an all-girl Flock of Seagulls cover band (We would be called Mock of Seagulls).
I used to avoid the use of “product” in my hair, but that’s no longer an option, so here’s my new product lineup.
I used to let my hair air dry, but this style needs actual styling. I try to towel dry it well, and let it air dry until it’s just barely damp, to avoid running my hair dryer for too long. After it’s dry, I apply Jason Citrus & Mandarin Wax Pomade to my hair. It smooths fly-aways, adds a nice chunky texture, and keeps my hair in place. Unlike most pomades and waxes I’ve seen, Jason’s Wax Pomade is paraben free, and doesn’t have the ambiguous “fragrance” on the ingredients list (which often indicates pthalate use).
A little goes a long way with the wax. It has a light citrus scent, and is super easy to use. The only problem is that my “no poo” regimen of using conditioner only doesn’t seem to wash away the wax buildup effectively.
My solution? Burt’s Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit & Sugar Beet Shampoo. Of all the natural personal care products I’ve tried, this is the first one that has a scent I’m not crazy about, but it does such a great job that I don’t care what it smells like. The scent doesn’t linger after washing. It cuts through buildup gently without drying out my hair, and they aren’t kidding about the super shiny part. My hair has a nice healthy sheen.
After I wash, I follow with Jason Vitamin E with A & C Conditioner.
I can’t wait for my hair to get back to ponytail length, but until then, these products are keeping my hair in control without harsh and possibly unsafe chemicals.
