  2. Another Use for Dehumidifier Water

    Posted on by Allie

We run a dehumidifier in our basement to keep things dry, and I hate to pour that water down the drain.  In the past I’ve suggested using it to water the garden or lawn.  But I don’t have enough house plants to put all that water to good use.  Here’s another idea for emptying the dehumidifier.  Read more…

  3. Ask Your Guests to Bring Slippers

    Posted on by Allie

If you’re planning a holiday get together at your home, you’ll probably have a bunch of muddy, snowy shoes on your hands when guests arrive.  Instead of relying on your trusty doormat to get their shoes clean, asking your guests to remove their shoes at the door can save you lots of cleaning time (and energy) after the holidays. It can also keep your home healthier, by keeping outdoor contaminates from being tracked through your home. Read more…

  4. Another Reason to Unplug the Coffee Maker

    Posted on by Allie

I was chatting with a good friend yesterday.  She mentioned that there was a major house fire in the house next door to hers.  The cause?  A malfuntioning coffee pot.  It hadn’t been left on, but it was still plugged in. Read more…

  5. Use Your Towel More Than Once

Growing up, I used a new towel every time I showered.  I just thought that was how it was done.  College, and the coin op laundry room cured me of that habit fast.

  7. My Big Drafty Window

Posted on October 8, 2008 by Allie

We have a big window in our living room. I like it, because there’s a big beautiful tree in the front yard, and I love having such a great view of it. Argo loves to look out the window and bark at anyone who dares to walk on the sidewalk, or close their car door. The down side of the big window is that it’s old, and even with the storm windows in place, it’s quite drafty.

  8. An Eco-Friendly Way to Keep Your Windshield Clear

Posted on January 28, 2008 by Allie

I’m sure you know that running your car to defrost your windows is a waste of gas.  Still, that doesn’t mean it’s fun put in time with an ice scraper in the morning.  What if you could stop the ice before it started? Read more…

  10. Take the Train

Posted on December 20, 2007 by Allie

I remember a radio commercial from way back that had someone singing, “take the train to the plane, take the train to the plane.”  But Carbonfund.org has a good reason for just taking the train on your next trip.

Recycle Old Electronics and Make Some Green

moto-cell-phone.jpg

My husband upgraded his phone and gave me his old one, so even though technically there was nothing wrong with my old phone (except that it couldn’t send e-mail) I now have a new (to me) phone.  And even though my new phone was a hand-me-down, I’m carrying a little eco-guilt about upgrading when I didn’t absolutely need to (although, did I mention that I can now approve website comments where ever I go?).

So what do I do with the old phone?  Wisebread has a good answer!
