1. Tip of the Day - Donate Your Old Eyeglasses

My fourth grade reading glasses looked frighteningly similar to the ones Angela wore on Who’s the Boss. I had a pair in high school that had faux denim frames. Then there were the Lisa Loeb glasses in college . . .

And those are only a few highlights in the list of hideous glasses I have owned. If you, like me, have four eyes, you probably have some equally out of fashion glasses in your past, or maybe even in your closet or junk drawer. Read more…

  4. Tip of the Day - Check Out the Library

Libraries are the ultimate reusing resource.  Books, magazines, CD’s, DVD’s, videotapes, and newspapers are some of the items available for use at your public library.  My local library also has framed artwork available for loan and a coupon swap box.

Check out your local library to see what they have available.  The next time you’re about to purchase books, music, or movies, see if the library has it first.  In addition to being green, using the local library is a great way to support your community and save money.

Take a look at the ingredients in your favorite hand lotion, conditioner, soap, cosmetics and mouthwash. Do the ingredients list methylparaben, ethylparaben, propylparaben, or butylparaben? You may also see isobutyl-, isopropyl-, or benzylparaben on the list, but those are less commonly used ingredients.

Parabens are used as preservatives to inhibit mold and bacteria growth. This may sound like good thing, but there’s a lot of controversy about the use of parabens in personal care products. Here’s why.

  7. Close Your Closet Doors

    Posted on by Allie

My second grade teacher told us that back in colonial times it was considered bad luck to sleep with the closet doors open. Ever since then, I have to close every closet in the house before I go to sleep.

Little did I know, I was not only protecting myself from bad luck, but saving a little bit of energy. Read more…

Unless you wipe it down after every use, microwave crud builds up fast.  And, of course, every time you use the microwave, the food splatters get a little more baked on and stubborn.  Here’s a simple, inexpensive, and eco-friendly way to clean and deodorize your microwave. Read more…

Tip of the Day

Reuse Gift Wrap

Did you have a family member who sat in the corner at a party or holiday event, carefully folding up wrapping paper for future use? Maybe it was a grandma or great aunt who lived through the Depression and learned to save anything that was usable, maybe it was just someone who was thrifty and knew how to pinch pennies. What ever the reason behind it, saving wrapping paper makes good green sense.
