Dear Allie: Where can I purchase inexpensive CFLs?

I am looking for 100 bulbs to award families at our elementary school for signing a pledge to take plastics and paper to the recycle center. Where can I buy them inexpensively?
What a great idea! I love the pledge and the award of a CFL to encourage families to go green.
Various big box stores have great sales on CFLs, and Home Depot even had a CFL giveaway a few months back. Call around to your local stores to see what their prices are. Ask to speak to a manager, and explain the situation. Since it’s for such a good cause, it’s possible that they’ll give you a discount or even offer to donate the bulbs as a sponsor of the award.
Or consider ordering from bulbs.com. They offer reduced prices for buying in bulk.
Does anyone else have a good suggestion for Doris? Where do you buy your CFL bulbs?

I have no idea if this type of thing is happening nationwide, but my Costco has been partnering with the local power company to provide _enormous_ discounts on CFL “starter packs”. The starter packs come with 2-3 60W replacements, 2-3 100W replacements, and a single relector flood replacement — for about $9.
That’s an incredible discount as I keep seeing 1 or 2 CFL bulbs on sale for $12 or more in grocery stores and even Home Depot or Lowe’s.
