My big “bad” food craving is french fries. Thankfully, they don’t always have to be a bad food. Alexia has taken the junk out of this junk food favorite with their Organic Oven Crinkles.

The fries crisp up nicely in the oven in just 20 minutes, and at 120 calories per serving make a great side dish or snack. I’ve tried the Onion & Garlic and Salt & Pepper flavors. The Onion & Garlic fries are good, but the Salt & Pepper fries are amazing.

And, the ingredients are all pronounceable:

Organic Potatoes, Organic Sunflower and/or Safflower Oil, Sea Salt, Organic Dehydrated Onion, Organic Concentrated Apple Juice, Organic Dehydrated Garlic, Organic Rice Flour, Organic Dehydrated Green Onion, Organic Dehydrated Parsley, Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Citric Acid, Organic White Pepper, Natural Flavors.

Meanwhile, a small order of fries from a major fast food chain has 340 calories and the ingredients list looks more like this:

Potatoes, Vegetable Oil (contains one or more of the following: soy, canola, cottonseed, partially hydrogenated soy and/or cottonseed), Disodium Dihydrogen Pyrophosphate (color protector), Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Dextrose

Which fries would you rather eat?

  1. I like, too, that they’re called oven crinkles rather than fries.

  5. Not a big fan of “autolyzed yeast extract” so I won’t be buying their flavored varieties, but their sweet potato fries are divine!

Tip of the Day

Reuse Gift Wrap

Did you have a family member who sat in the corner at a party or holiday event, carefully folding up wrapping paper for future use? Maybe it was a grandma or great aunt who lived through the Depression and learned to save anything that was usable, maybe it was just someone who was thrifty and knew how to pinch pennies.
