Equal Exchange Organic Hot Cocoa

After you’re done cross-country skiing or making snowpeople or going for a hike, there is nothing quite as comforting as a mug of hot chocolate to warm you up when you get home. I don’t care how old you are.
The problem is, the ingredients list on your average major brand of hot chocolate looks like this: Sugar, Modified Whey, Corn Syrup, Cocoa (Processed with Alkali), Partially Hydrogenated Soybean Oil, Nonfat Dry Milk, Salt, Dipotassium Phosphate, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Cream, Modified Corn Starch, Carrageenan. There are some things in there I do not want to ingest.
Equal Exchange Organic Hot Cocoa is made with Organic Evaporated Cane Juice, Organic Nonfat Dry Milk Powder, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Guar Gum, Sea Salt, Organic Carob Gum and Organic Vanilla Powder.
When it comes to hot chocolate, Equal Exchange is king. The milk is in the mix so you can make it with hot water and it’s still rich and thick.
A serving has seventy calories, is fat free, and has only 11 grams of sugar. And because it’s Equal Exchange, your purchase helps do good things.
“This product helps farmers in 3 countries — the organic cocoa is from small-scale farmers in the Dominican Republic, the organic sugar is fairly traded from farmer cooperatives in Paraguay, and the organic milk powder is from Organic Valley Family of Farms in the U.S.”
If you’re a purist and make your cocoa from scratch, Equal Exchange also sells organic baking cocoa. If you can’t find Equal Exchange products in a store near you, you can buy them online here or, for some reason, you can buy the hot cocoa at Drugstore.com. I guess that makes sense. It does make me feel better.
Want marshmallows with that? Dianne made some in December. Check out her recipe.

Hot cocoa mix is actually on my shopping list this week. I’ll have to try to hunt this stuff down.

This made me want the Trader Joe’s mint cocoa so bad. Damn you, internet!

Ooh, I haven’t tried that. We don’t have a Trader Joe’s around here. Mint and chocolate is a great combo. . .
Well, to me, anything and chocolate is a great combo. Mickey, this one is really worth tracking down.
