Favorite Products of 2007 - Food

I’ve been a label reader for a very long time.  I don’t think things like corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, and scary, long, unpronounceable words that sound like the result of an unfortunate experiment in chem class belong in food.  When I shop, I look for foods with simple ingredients that are minimally processed.  And I love buying organic and fair trade where I can.

This year, I’ve come to think of shopping as voting with my dollars.  I want to feel good about the companies I support, and I don’t want to throw money at companies who aren’t doing their part to produce healthy food through fair business practices and eco-friendly manufacturing.

Here are my top three favorites.

  1. Reed’s Green Tea Ginger Ice Cream — I am still dreaming about this ice cream.  I think it may be the best I’ve ever had.  And as soon as I work off what I put on over the holidays, I’m going to celebrate with a pint of this.  Um. . . wait . . .
  2. Dagoba Organic Chocolate xocolatl — Okay, I’ve definitely revealed I have a sweet tooth in these reviews.  I swear I do eat my fruits and veggies too, but it’s not like a review of a Granny Smith Apple would be all that interesting.
  3. Amy’s Bowls - Baked Ziti - For me, pasta is the perfect comfort food.  To have found a wheat-free pasta product that tastes as good as the “real” thing is absolutely awesome.
