Reed’s is known for their high quality natural ginger beer, but now they’re branching out into ice cream.  And thank goodness they are.  This ice cream is excellent.

The Green Tea Ginger Ice Cream is smooth and rich with a mellow tea flavor and a kick of crystallized ginger candy.  It isn’t too sweet, and the recommended serving size (1/4 of the container) is really satisfying.  I’m into small, high quality indulgences (rather than junk food), and this is a good indulgence.

The milk is rBGH free, and the dairy farm it comes from is working toward their organic certification.

Reeds is committed to using environmentally friendly processes and packaging, and is passionate about the health benefits of ginger.

Reed’s passion for ginger comes from its incredible flavor and health giving properties. Ginger is traditionally used to improve digestion, cure motion and morning sickness and for general health. The latest research is showing ginger to be anti-cancer, to lower cholesterol, and in Europe it is used as an arthritis medicine.

I wonder if the cholesterol lowering effects of ginger cancel out the heavy cream?  Probably not.  But, if you’re going to eat ice cream, you might as well get the good stuff, and this is the best of the best.

I will warn you though, if you’re sensitive to caffeine, be careful when you eat it.  I had some after dinner and I was wired on green tea all night.

Maybe this is a breakfast ice cream.  Hmm. . .

Tip of the Day

Reuse Gift Wrap

Did you have a family member who sat in the corner at a party or holiday event, carefully folding up wrapping paper for future use? Maybe it was a grandma or great aunt who lived through the Depression and learned to save anything that was usable, maybe it was just someone who was thrifty and knew how to pinch pennies. What ever the reason behind it, saving wrapping paper makes good green sense.
