Tostitos Natural Tortilla Chips

Not everyone has a “health food” store near them, and it’s nice to be able to walk into a regular grocery store and pick up “mainstream” food that is reasonably healthy and made with good ingredients. While I love supporting smaller eco-friendly businesses, it’s also nice to vote with my dollars to say “keep it up” to national brands that are trying to provide healthier options. If they see there’s a market for such products, maybe they’ll manufacture more. Tostitos Natural Tortilla Chips are awesome. They taste a lot like the chips you’d get at a really great Mexican restaurant. They have that satisfying salty, slightly greasy thing going for them, but they’re cholesterol free and made with simple, good ingredients: Whole Organic Yellow Corn, Expeller-Pressed Sunflower Oil and Sea Salt. That’s it! The corn is certified organic by Oregon Tilth. Of course, this doesn’t make them health food. They still have 140 calories per serving with 50 calories from fat, but if you’re going to eat chips, you might as well eat chips made with good ingredients.
No hydrogenated oils, no genetically modified corn, they can be found in most grocery stories, and they aren’t much more expensive than regular chips. I’m a fan.

I saw a great piece on the NBC Nightly News a couple of weeks ago. It was about the *Kettle* brand chips and how they’re made.

Wow! Thanks Regular Lady! That was really cool. I love Kettle Chips. It’s neat to see companies going green and saving money on their costs doing so. I hope more companies see the light.
