HFCS Free - Granola Bars

My husband was looking for an afternoon snack to help him fuel up for his bike ride home, but a lot of the options in the grocery aisle didn’t pass my label reading test.

I did a little research, and here’s what I bought him on my last trip to the store.

Kashi Cherry Dark Chocolate chewy granola bars.

Here are the ingredients:

Kashi Seven Whole Grains & Sesame® Blend (Whole: Hard Red Winter Wheat, Oats, Rye, Barley, Triticale, Long Grain Brown Rice, Buckwheat, Sesame Seeds), Brown Rice Syrup, Cherries (Red Tart Cherries, Apple Juice Concentrate), Dark Chocolate (Evaporated Cane Juice, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla), Evaporated Cane Juice Crystals, Soy Protein Isolate, Soy Grits, Chicory Root Fiber, Corn Flour, Honey, Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Rice Starch, Vegetable Glycerin, Oat Fiber, Evaporated Salt, Molasses, Soy Lecithin, Natural Flavors, Whey, Annatto Color.

120 calories per bar, and no High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Sadly, they have wheat in them, so I can’t eat them, but my husband says they’re really good.  And what I like about Kashi products is that they’re available in most major grocery stores, so if you don’t have a natural foods or specialty store nearby, you aren’t out of luck.

If you have a food you love and can’t find a good HFCS-free replacement, leave a comment or e-mail me at AlliesAnswers at gmail dot com, and I’ll try to find a substitute for you.  I’ll put up a new HFCS-free post every Thursday.

  1. I like those! They also make good energy bars that I like to eat before swimming. I haven’t checked to see if they’re HFCS free yet, though.

  3. Hi,
I have trouble finding cereal and granola bars/cereal bars we have already cut out the hydrogenated oils, and colors which doesn’t leave many to choose from, then on top of that my son has severe peanut/tree nut allergies so alot of times that eliminates alot of the organic or alternatives that would normally work. If you have any ideas that would be great! Thanks so much, Teri

Melt Down Old Candles

If you light candles in your house, you’ll know that there’s a point where there’s still wax left, but the wick is gone.  Recycle the wax and make new candles!
