Recycled Tip of the Day - Swap Your Books

Summer is a great time to sack out with a book and enjoy a lazy afternoon, so I figured this tip deserved another trip around the block.

You buy a book, you read it and then it sits on a shelf. What are the chances you’ll read it again? Maybe someone else would like to read it.

Check out PaperBackSwap and swap books with other members. You list books you’re willing to swap in exchange for credits. Use the credits to order books you want from a list of 1,468,035. All you pay is the postage to send out books (which is paid for you when you order books). The books you receive are yours to keep or pass on when you’re done.

It’s a great way to reuse instead of buying new. Of course, it takes energy to ship books back and forth, so you’re local library is still the most eco-friendly way to book swap. But if you can’t find a book you really want at the library, give PaperBackSwap a try.

Update: Also check out BookMooch.

  1. Now if I could get Courtney to finish up Green Chic, I could pass it on!

  2. Those sound like good sites! I already do this with my mom, my sister-in-laws and a couple of friends. If they remember to give a book back to me, I pass it on to someone else, if not, I figure they passed it on to a good home and at least someone else is reading it. I still go to the library for most things, but sometimes I still end up buying a book for one reason or another. I will check out those sites for a few books that I haven’t been able to find at the library!

  3. Why has no one told me about these book swaps until now? Where is the love, people!? Anyway, thanks for the info. I’d love to swap my old books for something new and interesting.

  4. There’s another site that picks up your old books- I found it because I saw the truck driving around my neighborhood today while I was riding my bike!
