Tip of the Day - A New Use for Spent Dryer Sheets

I have a love/hate relationship with dryer sheets. I love having soft, static free clothes, but I hate it when a used dryer sheet falls out of the leg of my pants while I’m in line at the DMV (true story). I also feel like dryer sheets are wasteful. But here’s something you can do with dryer sheets after they’ve taken their turn with your towels.

Use them to dust. Stop buying disposable dust cloths and use your dryer sheets instead.

You can also tuck the dryer sheet from your last wash in with your clothes as you put them away, or under the bag in your garbage can to keep things smelling fresh.

A lot of dryer sheets aren’t biodegradable, so make sure you buy some that are, like Mrs. Myers Clean Day Dryer Sheets.

Of course, the no waste alternative is to use dryer balls, and do your dusting with rags, but if you’re addicted to dryer sheets, do what you can to get a little more use out of each one.

***UPDATE:  Please see this article on dryer balls. They’re not a better alternative.

  1. I like to leave the used dryer sheets in my shoes.

  2. Oh my gosh! That’s a great idea! I need to start doing that. My hiking boots are rank.
