Change your Furnace Filter

Even though it’s been warm here the past few days, I’ve been researching ways to get the house ready for winter.
One of the more simple energy saving tips is to change your furnace filter frequently (say that five times fast). A clogged filter forces your furnace to work harder to heat your house, using more energy.
Start the season with a fresh one, and change it once a month while you’re running your furnace.

I have been told by my furnace cleaner that the new heavy duty filters that screen out allergens, dust mites, etc. are even worse than a clogged filter in making your furnace work harder. Both make your furnace’s inside temperature much higher which can lead to a cracked heat exchanger. That’s more CO2 in your home, and an expensive repair or replacement bill. Use the cheap filters and change them monthly. Has anyone else heard this?
