My fourth grade reading glasses looked frighteningly similar to the ones Angela wore on Who’s the Boss. I had a pair in high school that had faux denim frames. Then there were the Lisa Loeb glasses in college . . .

And those are only a few highlights in the list of hideous glasses I have owned. If you, like me, have four eyes, you probably have some equally out of fashion glasses in your past, or maybe even in your closet or junk drawer.

When you’re done with a pair of glasses, donate them. According to CharityGuide.org, organizations that accept used glasses for donation can recycle them into usable glasses for as little as 8 cents a pair. Many organizations will also accept used non-prescription sunglasses, which are helpful eye protection in areas near the equator.

Organizations accepting used glasses for charity recycling include Goodwill, your local Lion’s Club, as well as LensCrafters and Pearle Vision stores.

More than 4 million pairs of glasses end up in the garbage every year. Let’s cut down on waste and put old glasses to good use.
