Tip of the Day - Don’t Bag Your Leaves in Plastic
Posted on October 17, 2007 by

A few days ago, my neighbor from across the street put a dozen plastic bags stuffed with leaves from her yard out at the curb, and my blood went from normal to boiling in less than 60 seconds.
In our neighborhood, they come around with a big vacuum on the back of a truck and suck all the leaves up anyway. There is no need to bag. None!
But if you’re neighborhood doesn’t have this service, what should you do with your leaves?
If you have a wooded area behind your house, make a leaf pile back there and just let the leaves break down naturally. If that’s not an option, please please please don’t put your leaves in plastic bags. Use biodegradable lawn and leaf bags, like BioBags. BioBags are 100% biodegradable and compostable, and are made from corn, which is an easily renewable resource.
My husband advised me against opening up my neighbor’s leaf bags and spreading the leaves over her lawn again, but I think I may buy her a box of BioBags and leave them on her front step.

Boiling blood? That’s strong passion for the welfare of earth.
There are many people who are unaware of the consequences of their actions. It is up to those who care to teach them. There’s also people who know about it and continue doing wasteful stuff. They frustrate me. It’s so hard to get people to stop being lazy and careless.
Did you leave her the box of biobags?
I’m headed out to the store today, and I’m planning to grab a box. Hopefully, it will make a difference.
I’m willing to admit that my blood wasn’t exactly boiling, but simmering blood just doesn’t have the same ring to it.
