Don’t Keep Paper Towels Handy

If I have paper towels sitting on my kitchen counter, I guarantee I’ll use them, even if I have a dishtowel handy.
Cut down on your paper towel usage by keeping them out of sight. Much like how you’ll be less likely to tear into a bag of chocolate chip cookies if they aren’t sitting right there on the counter, you’ll be less likely to use a paper towel if the roll is put away. Keep rags and towels handy, and only use paper towels for messes that absolutely need clean up with something that’s disposable.
And, make sure the paper towels you use are made from recycled paper.

Good tip. I’ve heard this before in regards to getting kids to eat easier. By setting out fresh fruit and making junk food harder to get to, kids will eat more fruit.
We mainly use and reuse old cloth napkins for our “paper towels.” I have a stack of them in a basket on the kitchen counter. When I use an actual paper towel I just toss it in the compost.
One day, I ran out of paper towels.
And I was too lazy to get more right away.
Then, I realized: who needs paper towels? And I started using rags.
That was 2.5 years ago. Haven’t bought any since!
I can’t stand to see people who use paper towels to dry their hands at home, and there are a lot of them. Dumb.
I think I’m down to using about a roll a year now. About the only thing I consistently use paper towels for is soaking up the grease off a pizza.
