Tip of the Day - Get Dad Some Green Tools
Posted on June 11, 2008 by

Father’s Day is harder to shop for than Mother’s Day, isn’t it? I was going to just leave the Father’s Day gift ideas with yesterday’s post, but I came up with one more idea.
If your father likes to putter around in the yard and work in the garden, he probably already has an array of mowing, edging and hedge trimming tools. Replace one of them with an electric model.
Since lawn tools can account for as much as 5% of our air pollution and older model lawn mowers are incredibly inefficient with fuel, this little change can have a big impact. Plus, a clean, quiet, electric powered lawn tool that doesn’t give off gas fumes will make your father’s time doing yard work more enjoyable.
I love my electric lawn mower (as much as you can love a lawn mower that doesn’t actually mow the lawn for you).
Here’s an electric powered 2 in 1 edger.
And here’s an electric hedge trimmer.
But there are plenty of models to choose from. Do a little research and find the best model for your dad.

Thanks for checking out my blog. I am afraid that I am going to have to add yours to my reader. I am trying to be more green and love knowing about being “green” so your blog is right up my ally. Thanks for the info and look forward to your future posts. Thanks!!
These are some great ideas. My dad loves doing yard work and his equipment is probably as inefficient as they come.
Another “green” gift idea is an event or activity… we got dad a gift certificate to a relaxing day at the spa and a massage! Quite the opposite end of the spectrum from yard work, but perhaps he’ll need a massage even more after doing the yard work!
Thanks, Dustin! I love your blog! I’m honored to be added to your reader.
MG — Old lawn equipment is definitely worth replacing. Sometimes it makes sense to stick with the old stuff rather than dispose of it, but lawn equipment can guzzle some gas.
Beth — that’s a great idea! Who doesn’t want a massage? And there are plenty of other events too. Good thoughts!
