Still need some traditional gifts for the people on your list?  Buy from stores that use the profits to benefit environmental and humanitarian causes.

A Greater Gift’s mission is  “to promote the social and economic progress of people in developing regions of the world by marketing their products in a just and direct manner.”  They have fairly traded crafts and gifts, and many are made from recycled materials.

Equal Exchange has fair trade and organic goodies for sale in their online shop.

Ten Thousand Villages has fair trade goods and crafts, and items made from recycled materials (like the wall hanging made from a recycled oil drum above) at their online store, or look for a store near you.

Adopt an animal through the World Wildlife Federation, at the $50 level and receive a stuffed toy, photo of the animal and adoption certificate to present as a gift.

Visit NPR’s Green Room for gifts made from recycled, organic, and reclaimed materials, and support National Public Radio.

Check out National Geographic’s store. Proceeds go to support the National Geographic Mission.

Where do you plan to do your holiday shopping?
