We had a (much needed) new roof put on our house last week. The contractor suggested that we add some more insulation to our attic. He said it’s an easy project that will pay for itself almost immediately.

If you’re looking for a simple way to cut down on your household energy use and don’t mind putting a little bit of work into it, check out the animated tutorial at Easy2DIY.

According to GreenHomeGuide:

“Adding insulation is one of the most important steps you can take to improve the energy performance of your home and lessen its environmental impact.

Space heating and cooling consume 44 percent of all energy used in the home, according to the Department of Energy. Adding a few hundred dollars worth of insulation can reduce your annual heating and cooling bill 10 to 30 percent.”

Look for an eco-friendly insulation like Ultra Touch made from natural cotton fibers, or Celbar Cellulose Insulation made from 100% recycled materials.

So throw on some old clothes, get a good face mask, and insulate.
