iwalk, is an International Walk to School to raise awareness for safer and improved streets, healthier habits and cleaner air. It started in 1994 in Hertfordshire County in Great Britain with just a few schools. Last year, millions of children, parents, and community leaders walked to school in 42 different countries.

This year, Walk to School Day is on October 8th in the U.S. (check here for international dates), so you still have time to plan. Get together with your child’s teacher, your neighbors, or stop by your town hall and plan an iwalk event. It can be as simple as a small group from your neighborhood walking to school, or you can create an event with games, sponsors and press coverage. Walk activities can be for just a day, or continue for a week, month, or longer.

The iwalk website has great ideas for your event and advice for getting started.  Happy walking!
