Tip of the Day - Make Your Own Popsicles
Posted on July 14, 2008 by

I eat popsicles like it’s my job in the summer.
Wisebread has a great article with ideas for homemade popsicles. Making popsicles at home with juices, pudding, sweetened tea, or chunks of fruit is a great way to reduce the waste.
A few years ago, I bought two popsicle molds. Yes, they are plastic, but I’ll use them for a long long time. And I don’t have the waste of boxes, wrappers, and sticks.
Think about using popsicle molds as a way to give new life to leftovers, or help you with portion control.
How many times have you made a smoothie and made way more than the amount you intended to? Instead of drinking the extra helping, or throwing it away, pour it in a popsicle mold.
Same goes for pudding — made some for dessert but want to make sure you don’t eat all of it in one sitting? Pudding pops!
The added benefit is that you know exactly what goes in them, and it’s a great way to avoid HFCS.
I love making popsicles out of coconut milk, a little sugar, and some shredded coconut.
What’s your favorite popsicle recipe?

Alexis loves homemade popsicles. Her favorite is just grape juice, but I like to play around with mashed fruit from time to time too.
Seeded and blended watermelon is great. Strawberries blended with banana and orange juice is pretty good too. Truth is, though, I haven’t made any of these healthy popsicles in ages, for I have fallen under the evil influence of the Snickers ice cream bars.
Oh Ana! Great idea! The next time I buy a watermelon and don’t think we’ll get through it before it goes bad, I’ll have to do that!
Dianne - grape is one of my favorites too.
My son is totally addicted to popsicles. His favorites are grape juice or lemonade. We use the plastic popsicle molds, too. I make the smoothie ones for myself. He unfortunately won’t touch those.
