Shovel the Snow

This one is kind of obvious, but the most eco-friendly way to clear snow off your driveway is with a shovel. Here’s some things you should know about snow removal.

Yes, shoveling can be tedious and tiring, but it’s also great exercise if you do it the right way and have the right equipment. Go to FitDay’s Snow Shoveling Calculator and fill in your height and weight to determine how many calories you’ll burn while you shovel.

eHow has the down low on picking the perfect shovel.

Gaim has some strong hemp work gloves to keep you from getting blisters.

The National Safety Council has tips to make shoveling a safer activity.

Is the snow sticking to your shovel? HGTV recommends wiping down your shovel with cooking oil before you start to make it non-stick.

And Please Do Not Tap On The Glass has information on eco-friendly de-icers to keep your holiday guests from slipping on the walkway.

Just make sure you know your limits. Don’t try to shovel if you have a bad back, or a heart problem. If you can’t shovel yourself, see if any neighborhood kids have a shoveling service going.
